Welcome to our Norwich 2022 summer Blog

First day at the Flying Classrooms and Norwich Quiz

Our students experienced the first day of classes at the Flying Classrooms.

Afterwards they were taken around parts of Norwich in order to find out answers to a quiz, which flying classrooms organised so that they could get to know Norwich city centre and to learn some interesting facts and history about the place.

Laser Quest and Pablo´s Birthday

Yesterday we divided into two groups, boys vs girls, and had a laser battle in the battlefield.

The boys thrashed the girls and they are yet to do the Macarena dance as a punishment. Pictures will be posted soon!

Also, today our student Pablo has turned 17. We had a small celebration in the yard of the Flying Classrooms where everyone indulged in a piece of chocolate cake.

Happy 17th to Pablo

Canoeing on the River Wensum

The adventure continues!

Today we had a splash down the heart of Norwich. Our students paddled upstream with all their strength while exploring this beautiful city from a unique perspective. The weather was lovely by the way, sunny and pleasant.

Some of our boys were brave enough to face the fresh cold water of the river and went diving in!

A very cool and sporty afternoon!

Full day excursion to Cambridge

Today started off with the group leaders being late along with our students Xavi and Alejandro 🙂 The bus was missing in action and never showed up. We arrived with the cheers of the group 🙂

Finally, we set off towards the historical city of Cambridge whilst playing “I spy with my little eye something beginning with…” 🙂

We had a very good time taking in the sights of the marvellous colleges that Cambridge has to offer. Some buildings are as old as the 1400s, which we found out whilst enjoying a relaxing time on the punting boats.

Some students managed to gain entry to Pembroke College.

Hopefully, the visit to Cambridge will spur these fine young students on to achieving their goals in life.

Stick around for more!

Oscar´s birthday and excursion to Sheringham

Today we had a coastal trip to Sheringham about an hour away from Norwich. It´s a very typical English seaside town full of local food like fish and chips and pies and pasties along with the amusement parks where you can´t help but indulge in the fun.

Some of our students were brave enough to brave the cold sea.

Also today Oscar turned 15. Happy birthday to Oscar.

Norwich Ghost Walk

Today our students got to see the darkest side of Norwich whilst listening to spooky stories.

The witch doctor took us on a journey through the most haunted areas of the city.

We heard tales of the many lost spirits and poltergeists who are still seen and heard to this day!

A unique set of vocabulary to boost their level of English taught through an entertaining and engaging activity 🙂

Roller Skating at Funkys

Yesterday, we had a very lovely afternoon roller skating and to top it all off we were in the right place at the right time as an ice cream van pulled up just across the road from us. Much to the students delight they ran across the road to experience a typical British tradition on a fine summer day. As the van departed we asked for one more request: “put the music on” and as it drove off he sounded the creepy music and we all jumped for joy cheering and shouting 🙂 🙂

Even though there was much anticipation (mainly from the boys 🙂 , everybody ended up having a whale of a time.

There were literally some ups and downs where they tested the floor 🙂 but they were such brilliant troops and got up with a big smile 🙂

Norwich Gravity Trampoline Park

Today our students enjoyed a trampoline activity at the Norwich Gravity Centre. We saw some cool moves from the boys and girls. There was some duelling and dodging from moving objects.

A very nice Friday afternoon burning some energy and tiring them out even more!

Retro Replay Arcade and Whitlingham Activity Centre

Today we had a very busy Saturday as our students enjoyed a double session of activities. The day started off with taking a trip back in time, Retro Replay Arcade! The students soon became absorbed with the classic arcades buzzing around like a child in a sweet shop 🙂

Unfortunately, the fun and games had to stop so that they could have lunch to gain stamina for the next activity, Whitlingham Activity Centre. The students were split up into two groups, the ones who wanted to partake in paddle board and the others in kayaking. It started off with a briefing and a warm up and then they were off! The students had a “splash” upon their return they were soaking wet and shivering with a smiley face 🙂

A successful and fun day!

Trip to Great Yarmouth and Bowling at the Hollywood Bowl

On Sunday, we visited an old coastal town called Great Yarmouth. To some, it looks a little run down, but if you look closely the town has kept its original charm, which gives any English person nostalgia. From a sandy beach with donkey rides to amusement parks and arcades; what else could you ask for!

Monday was competition time once again, but this time at the Hollywood Bowl. Split up into four teams the competition was on amongst the small four teams. Even though there was a heatwave with temperatures reaching a scorching 38 degrees, our students rolled on with happy smiles!

Cryptic Escape Norwich

Sadly we had to cancel the activity for Tuesday, traditional games in the park, as Norwich was hit by an unprecedented heat wave. Had we gone to the park, our students would have roasted like chickens!

However, It has been a great two days with our students being split into 4 groups to play Escape Room, which was also spread over two days.

Everyone really wanted to experience the Mafia Heist so the competition was on!

Who would escape and who wouldn’t achieve neither!

Well here is the order of the teams:

Winners
Toni, Marc Domenech, Pablo, David and Alejandro (escaped without the money)

Runners up
Xavi, Penny, Ines, Paula Pinazo, Alejandro Benito and Paula Navarro (escaped without the money)

Second to last
Pablo, Oscar, Anna, Elsa and Serena (needed just 10 seconds more to escape – shame!)

Last
Paula Ferri, Lidia, Altea, Marc Adamuz and Julia (almost escaped)

All in all it was an amazing and challenging experience.

Well done guys!!!

Extra Posers 🙂 🙂 🙂

End of stay ceremony

Sadly, the final day has arrived much to the dismay of the students. Nobody wants to go home 🙁

Each student was given an end of course certificate with a warming farewell by the teachers, staff and other international students from the Flying Classrooms Study Centre.

Our students Paula Pinazo, Lidia, Ines and Penelope gave a very heartfelt speech to thank every member of the staff for the help and support and for growing their English in a fun and engaging way.

The teachers said amazing things about all our students and what a pleasure has been having every single one of them at Flying Classrooms this summer. Also they mentioned they all came with an exceptional level of English!

Farewell Party

To end our fabulous stay in Norwich, the Flying Classrooms organised a small farewell party with some snacks, drinks and music. And let´s not forget the good old table tennis which gave our students a lot of entertaining and competitions 🙂

Time to say goodbye

Here we are again coming to the end of our super 2022 Norwich trip. Over the last 21 days our students have had the opportunity to experience the real British culture. Even though it has been a culture shock for many of our students, no one wishes to return home as they find Norwich very welcoming and full of character with plenty of things to keep themselves entertained. It has been an amazing journey full of activities, excursions and adventures along with fantastic lessons to grow their language even more.

We are very proud of each and every one of our students in their personal and educational growth. They certainly made a mark at the flying classrooms and the host families. Our 2022 Norwich adventure would not have been possible without such well-behaved students.

We have no doubts they will get far in life 😉

Thank you for your trust in Fun Time English School once again.

Norwich Study Centre Flying Classrooms School of English

Thank you to all the staff (Kumi, Emily, Gaby, Andy, Jun and all the super teachers) for making this trip a memorable stay by always being so accommodating, welcoming and caring.

We will see you all next summer 2023!

Thank you for everything guys! You are absolutely brilliant!

The return home

A dishearten delayed of 3 hours. However, our students made the most of it and did the Macarena dance as promised 🙂

Wonderful caring families

Thank you once again for looking after our students with such care and making their stay an absolute blast 🙂
