Norwich – Verano 2023

Welcome to our Norwich 2023 summer Blog

We arrived to Norwich this morning!

We were kindly greeted by Kumi, the director of Flying Classrooms, and Kyra, her assistant. The students were given the welcome pack and then went off to their host families.

Our programme is full of different activities, excursions and social events as well as English classes.

It is going to be a non-stop adventure for the students!

STAY TUNED FOR MORE UPDATES

Visit to Norfolk Broads and Steam train ride

Today our students had a very busy day: boat trip, steam train and a bus ride. They definitely got to see the beautiful countryside of Norkfolk. First, took a lovely boat trip down the Norfolk Broads. We had a great tour guide who gave a lot of information about the wildlife and history of the place.

Then, we experienced a nostalgic trip by a stream train on Norfolk’s longest narrow gauge railway which runs between the historic market town of Aylsham and bustling town of Wroxham, at the heart of the Norfolk Broads.

And finally, we took the bus from the town of Aylsham back to Norwich.

Whilst in Ayslham, we stumbled across some of our students in the town´s church and as we entered we thought that there was a professional pianist however, it turned out to be our student Aron and later Ines gave it a go as well. Such an amazing performance. We take our hats of to them!

By the way, today our student Ines Hernandez turned 17. Happy birthday Ines!

First day at the Flying Classrooms and Quiz

Our students experienced the first day of classes at the Flying Classrooms. They met their teachers and classmates.

Afterwards, they were taken around parts of Norwich in order to find out answers to a quiz, which Kyra, the activity leader, had organised so that they could get to know Norwich city centre and to learn some interesting facts about the place. Even though we were caught by the rain a bit, it did not spoil the day!

Laser Quest competition

Today two teams battled it out to see who were the best of the best.

We had two special captains, Travis and Jenson who were born and raised in Norwich and joined our group of super students. They specially hand picked their team.

We had such a blast and it ended up a tie!

Norwich Gravity Trampoline Park

Today our students visited the Norwich Gravity Centre. We saw some cool flips and some duelling.

A very nice afternoon burning some energy and showing off their skills!

Eaton Park – Crazy Golf

Today we were blessed with sunny weather and pleasant temperatures. It was the perfect day to be at the Eaton Park playing some crazy golf. We were split into four groups and the winner was Adolfo with 50 points! 🙂

Then a nice treat came our way which was the ice cream van. The best ice cream you can taste! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Lord Mayor’s Procession and trip to Cromer

Such an eventful weekend! Saturday everybody enjoyed the Lord Mayor´s Procession. The city was very lively and vibrant. The parade was full of different nationalities, environmental awareness and young acrobats bravely showing off their skills.

On Sunday, we took a more relaxing approach and visited a seaside town called Cromer. Even though it was cloudy and a bit nippy, our students braved the cold waters.

Once again, our super students had the company of Jenson and Travis who added an extra dynamic to the group. Loads of fun and giggles. You guys rock! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Norwich Ghost Walk

Today our students got to see the darkest side of Norwich whilst listening to spooky stories whilst encountering unexpected passer byers at the most perfect moment of the stories.

The witch doctor took us on a journey through the most haunted areas of the city. By the way, it turns out our student Amelia is a witch who likes kids and her pet is a water bottle😂😂😂

We heard tales of the many lost spirits and poltergeists who are still seen and heard to this day!

A unique set of vocabulary to boost their level of English taught through an entertaining and engaging activity 😁

Also, today our student Cristina has turned 16. We had a small celebration in the yard of the Flying Classrooms where everyone indulged in a piece of chocolate cake.

Happy birthday Cristina 😁😁

Canoeing on the River Wensum

The adventure continues 😁

Today Marta turned 16. We all indulged in a piece of chocolate cake and sang happy birthday to her 😊

Happy birthday Marta😁😁

In the afternoon, we had a splash down the heart of Norwich. Our students paddled upstream with all their strength in the downpour of typical British weather! At some stage it rained like cats and dogs. However, despite the rain, everyone had a laugh and rowed like mad.

Amelia was the only one who braved a paddle board! Great job Amelia!!! Even though she got towed back to the base 😂😂😂

Ines and Marta were brave enough to face the fresh cold water of the river and went diving in 😂😂😂 You guys rock!

A very wet and sporty afternoon!

Roller Skating at Funkys

Yesterday, we had a very lovely afternoon roller skating😊

There were literally some ups and downs where they tested the floor 😂 specially Ines Elizabeth, Lucia and Marta 🤣but they were such brilliant troops and got up with a big smile 😁

A very nice Friday afternoon skating around😉

Eaton Vale Scout Activity Centre

Today we had an amazing time at the Eaton Vale Activity Centre.

Our students participated in 4 different challenges: climbing, air rifle, obstacle course and pedal go karting.

Our students were outstanding and had a whale of a time😊😊

CLIMBING CHALLENGE

As you aim to climb to the top of this course you need to be careful not to lose your nerve. Some of our students faced their fears and touched the top.

This was definitely a nerve-wracking activity😁

AIR RIFLE

Our students had the chance to test their aiming skills and eye coordination, improving their skills for accuracy and speed😉

OBSTACLE COURSE

The Obstacle Course put our students through their paces, testing their balance, agility and fitness.

There were 10 obstacles to work their way through from Planks of Peril to The Tyre Maze, Slackline Swamp to the Jungle Run.

Our students made the competition fierce😁😁

PEDAL GO KARTING

It was a self-led activity and our students made the most of it by having races, some driving though the mud and others were having a leisurely drive😊

Visit to Great Yarmouth and Pleasure Beach Fair

We had a fantastic Sunday with our super students😉😊😁

We visited the coastal town of Great Yarmouth and the students were given an unlimited pass wristband which allowed them to enter the popular fair of pleasure beach and enjoy the cool rides as many times as they desired.

A very entertaining way to finish our second full week in Norwich😎

Sports at Eaton Park

A pleasant and sporty afternoon was spent at Eaton Park and luckily without any rain!😉😊😁

We were glad Jenson and Travis accompanied us once again 😊

First game up was the typical English game of rounders. At first, some students were confusing baseball with rounders, but soon managed to get their heads around the English game.

Second game was frisbee where we divided them into two teams and the rules were very similar to dodgeball. However, you were out of the game if the frisbee wasn´t caught. It was all about the last man standing!

Third game was the classic game of football. It was a fierce match with great efforts made by everyone even by Ines Hernandez who managed to run away from the ball every time it neared her 😂😂

An excellent afternoon was had by everyone😎😉😁

Traditional afternoon Cream Tea

After so many active activities it was such a pleasure to sit and relax and enjoy scones, tea and coffee. This is a very typical English afternoon and as you can see it went down well with all the students.

So, the main debate of the afternoon was whether you put clotted cream first or jam first, well as a student put it, and put it rather well in fact, how on earth can you spread clotted cream on top of jam as it wouldn’t spread well at all! I rather agree with him 😊 😊😊

Cryptic Escape Room

Today was the test of the wits, who had the eye for detail, who had the brains for math and clues and who had sheer common sense!

Two teams braved “The Haunted” based on a true story of a little girl called Emily. There were certainly a few screams that came from those rooms! The other team really had to put on their thinking cap as they faced “The Treasure of Green Beard”.

Unfortunately, nobody escaped the rooms, but made a great effort and almost completed the challenge! Well done super teams!!!!!

Final Ceremony

So here we are, the end of an amazing three weeks with incredible students, whose company we have fully enjoyed 😊😊

For the final ceremony we all went to the cathedral area where Andy and all the teachers gave us a warming farewell. We were joined by all the other international students studying at Flying Classrooms and with whom our students have formed a strong bond.

Our student Alfredo is the one who gave a thoughtful and touching speech! Well done Alfredo for a faultless speech! 😉Afterwards our students were given their English diplomas.

Let’s just say, there were a few tears shed! 😢

Farewell Party

The end of the three weeks has finally sneaked up on us! But that didn’t stop our guys from having a whale of a time 😊😉

There was dancing: Saturday Night dance, Bachata, salsa and any other form they went with, popcorn throwing, table tennis competitions, interactions with many different nationalities and learning how to say key phrases in other languages. It was a blast!😍😎

Never say Goodbye…say, good journey and see you soon😊

What another amazing year it has been! All of us at Fun Time English School would like to say a big thank you to Flying Classrooms’ Kumi and all her staff who have made great efforts in making our stay comfortable and fully enjoyable!

A special thank you to Emily who has been outstanding in assisting us with our group activities and accommodation. Our students were extremely happy throughout their stay.

Also, a big thank you to Andy for organising the classes and levels. Our students thoroughly enjoyed their classes and teachers.

And of course, Kumi! Always so supportive and bringing such positivity towards us and our students and ensuring our stay is top notch! Thank you Kumi!

Like we always say, it’s never goodbye but good journey and see you soon! 😊😍

We’ll be back in summer 2024 😎

Outstanding Students😊

What can we say about this group of students! Let’s put it this way they were….. beyond outstanding, they are so well-mannered, educated and respectful! Our job has been such a pleasure due to their behaviour and attitude.

We will never forget you guys and we hope that one day we will have the pleasure of your company again😊

Have a wonderful summer and remember to keep on making unforgettable memories!

We love you guys!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Host Families

Once again and like every summer, thank you to all the host families for looking after our students as if they were their own and making their stay comfortable, pleasant and enjoyable.

We will see you all next summer 😊
